The 1980s was a time of boldness and flamboyance, especially when it came to fashion. A signature look of the era was neon.
This trend wasn’t limited to just a single item of clothing, either – it spanned tops, bottoms, accessories and even shoes. When it comes to 80’s neon fashion, the brighter the better. Neon colors were used to make bold statements on tops, skirts and pants. Women’s skirt suits in bright oranges, yellows and pinks were popular as well as bright yellow pants for women and men alike. Many of these pieces were made from materials such as spandex or Lycra to add shine and volume to the outfit. Bright colors weren't limited to just clothes though; accessories also had their moment in the sun during this time. Neon earrings, bangles, and headbands all became popular accessory choices for both genders during this era. Hair scrunchies with bright colors added a pop of fun to any outfit! Shoes were also not exempt from this colorful trend. Brightly colored sneakers like Nike Air Jordans were popular among both men and women in addition to brightly colored high-top boots for women that often featured multiple colors on one shoe. Neon fashion was an important part of 80s culture and is still seen today with vintage looks being sold in stores such as Urban Outfitters or ModCloth. With more subdued versions being embraced by celebrities like Rihanna or Gigi Hadid, it's clear that neon fashion is here to stay!
