Dwayne Michael Carter III, better known to the world as his stage name, Lil Wayne, is an American rapper, singer and songwriter. Born on September 27th 1982 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Lil Wayne first started listening to hip-hop music at a young age and rapping when he was 8 years old. He then went on to form his own group with his friends called “The Hot Boys” when he was 11. Lil Wayne signed a contract with Cash Money Records in 1996 and released his first solo album “Tha Block Is Hot” in 1999 which was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). He continued to grow as an artist throughout the 2000s and released several more albums such as Tha Carter (2004), Tha Carter II (2005), Tha Carter III (2008) and I Am Not A Human Being (2010). With these albums, Lil Wayne began to reach unprecedented levels of success and popularity. His single “Lollipop” from Tha Carter III won him a Grammy Award for Best Rap Song in 2009. Along with being a hugely successful rap artist, Lil Wayne is also an entrepreneur and investor. He has created several businesses including Trukfit clothing line and Young Money Entertainment record label which he founded in 2003. He has also invested heavily into real estate and reportedly owns multiple properties around the United States. In addition to being an incredibly successful businessman and artist, Lil Wayne is also very generous with his wealth. Over the years he has made several generous donations to charities such as Toys for Tots, Make-A-Wish Foundation and UNICEF among others. Lil Wayne remains one of the most influential figures within hip-hop culture today, having sold over 100 million records worldwide while garnering widespread critical acclaim along the way. As of 2021, he is estimated to be worth $150 million.
